How can I combine two report parameters into a string?
two report parameters in a string and then use it in my querystring or not.
For example, I have a report paramter called "Month" and the other one
called "Year". Obviously I want to make them as a start date for my report
and them pass this into my querystring. Can I achieve this without writing a
stored procedure for this purpose?
ThanksUse the command type of text.
exec sp_my_stored_procedure @.Month + @.Year, @.Param3, @.Param4
or
select * from table where date = @.Month + @.Year

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the way you mentioned below. Following
is what I did and the result I got:
Case 1. In "Define Query Parameter" dialog box, I type 3/1/2005 for @.month,
and leave @.year blank. The reporting service can successfully pull the data.
Case 2. In "Define Query Parameter" dialog box. I type 3/1/ for @.month and
2005 for @.year. An error happen: "Application uses a value of the wrong type
for the current operation."
Is there any other function I can apply for this query string to make it work?
Thanks

datetime data type instead of string.

How can I check the version of reporting services installed?
Hi, all here,
Would anyone here please guide me how can I check the version of reporting services installed? My problem is in my virtual machine, both SQL Server and SQL Server 2005 are installed, but I can create report in the vistual studio 2005 IDE, but cant deploy it to the reporting server database, in addition, I cant connect to reporting services database in SQL Server 2005 management studio.
Is it possible to install two different versions of reporting services in the same virtual machine? Please anyone here give me some advice for that. Thanks a lot.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,
Run the site http://localhost/reportserver you will find the version number somewhere on the site indicating that 8.x is 2k and 9.x is 2k5.

How can I Associate DataSource with Report using Code
Thx. in advance.
How can I Associate DataSource with Report using Code.I'm using Reporting
Service Web Serivice
I tried this below code but it is giving error
like
"The data source 'DS_Code_002' cannot be found in this report. --> The data
source 'DS_Code_002' cannot be found in this report"
DataSourceReference reference = new RS.DataSourceReference();
reference.Reference = txtDSPath.Text;
DataSource[] dataSources = new RS.DataSource[1];
DataSource ds = new RS.DataSource();
ds.Item = (RS.DataSourceDefinitionOrReference) reference;
ds.Name = txtDSPath.Text.Substring(txtDSPath.Text.LastIndexOf("/")+1);
dataSources[0] = ds;
rs.SetReportDataSources(txtReportPath.Text, dataSources);
Please help me to resolve the issue.
Thx. again.
regards,
Krishna.MIt took me 2 months to code this after hounding people and digging through
books. I look back and shake my head... :)
Note: FolderPath is the path of where the report root lives... i.e. if your
report was here and called "Top 50 Financial Statements" then the full path
is:
/reports/business/quarterly/Top 50 Financial Statements
and ReportRoot = "/reports/business/quarterly"
RSReports is my reference to the Reporting Service WSDL file (the variable
name you create when reference the reporting services web service)
MyDatasourceName is the name of your datasource. Be sure you specify where
it is exactly. :)
rsDeliverTo is just a variable of RSReports.ReportingService i.e.
Dim rsDeliverTo as RSReports.ReportingService
You should use "rsDeliverTo" to programmatically create your report, so you
can set the datasource in the code below as I have outlined:
Dim reference As New DataSourceReference
reference.Reference = ReportRoot & "/MyDatasourceName"
Dim ReportPathToReport As String = FolderPath + "/" + name
Dim rds() As RSReports.DataSource =rsDeliverTo.GetReportDataSources(ReportPathToReport)
Dim bflag As Boolean = False
Dim strResult As String = ""
For i As Integer = 0 To rds.Length - 1
If TypeOf rds(i).Item Is RSPolarisReports.InvalidDataSourceReference Then
rds(i).Item = CType(reference, DataSourceDefinitionOrReference)
bflag = True
End If
Next i
If (bflag) Then
rsDeliverTo.SetReportDataSources(ReportPathToReport, rds)
End If
Now that you have that, you can then proceed to set the report timeouts,
caching options, etc.

How about a reporting product that...Prints reports?
Don't get me wrong, I like RS in general, but, where is the ability to print?
This seems, well, fundamental in a reporting tool. Can you name any other
serious reporting or BI product that doesn't let you output to paper? I
can't and I've been around the block a time or two.
Yes, I know sp2 adds client-side printing and that's nice, but it misses the
point.
How is one supposed to have the boss's report waiting for him in the printer
in the morning using RS? There are still some people that want reports on
paper.
You should see the looks on people's faces when, in the course of telling
them why we should consider replacing our current reporting tool with RS,
that RS does not have the ability to automatically print a report. It's a
pretty awkward feeling.
Come on, Microsoft. You can do better than this.In the samples folder that installs with the product, you'll find a printer
delivery extension. (complete with source code if you care to see how it is
done)
When you install that extension, you'll be able to use the subscription
mechanism to automatically send a report to the printer so it is sitting
there waiting for your boss in the morning as requested.

person that you ask considers a different feature "absolutely critical".
Some of these "must haves" that we have added for SQL 2005 include
multi-valued parameters, a date picker, and an end-user report designer.
Other "must haves" that we didn't have time to do include rich text, style
templates, and Word output (to name a few).
Are you saying that you would rather have server-side printing instead of
client printing? If so, you have different priorities than the set of
customers we talked to (which is understandable) before we decided to add
client print. Anyway, if enough people really think this is important, it
can be easily written using the extensibility mechanism in RS. Or, you can
wait until we get a chance to build it in.

I probably could have expressed my frustration somewhat better.
You and your team deserve a lot of credit for delivering a solid, useful
reporting tool.
And you are right on target that not everyone has the same needs or
priorities.
As you can tell, server-side printing is a major priority for us. Trying to
move to
RS from Access and CR-based reporting is a challenge we are currently
working through. Converting and losing a capability we previously had makes
things more of a challenge.
Not to labor the point, but I can't help but think that when most managers,
executives, etc. think of the term 'report', they think of a piece of paper.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but judging from the response I've seen personally, this
would appear to be the case.
Certainly, we have many reporting scenarios, as most shops do, and printing
does
not figure in all, or even most of them. It's just frustrating to not be
able to
deliver on all your client's requests. Hmmm, does that sound familiar?
So, let me try this again:
Brian, if you're not already doing so, please consider adding server-side
printing
to the next release of Reporting Services.

cringe every time I look at the features that we end up having to cut to
meet our schedule. One of the ways that we try to mitigate the fact that we
can't get everything in is by providing extensibility interfaces that people
can use to add functionality we didn't have time to do. Printer delivery is
one of these that is possible to add. It is not going to make it into SQL
2005 as we are already code complete with the product and are in bug fix
mode. It is very high on the list for the post 2005 release.

How a parent report access datafields in its subreport
I am converting a crystal report to SQL Server Reporting Services report. In my crystal report copy, I have a parent report which will pass three parameters to a subreport (the subreport will use the params to retrieve data from database), then the parent report needs to access a calculated data field in its subreport. How can I do this using SQL Server Reporting Services? The subreport doesn't share data with its parent in SQL Server Reporting Services, right? Thanks.
I've never tried to do this and it sounds pretty complicated. But I wonder if you code put code into the Code tab of the sub report, something like:
Public Function GetValue() As String
Return First(Fields!MyField.Value, "MyQueryName")
End Function
And then from the parent call:
MySubReport.Code.GetValue()
--------------------
This could be a terrible idea but if you're completely stuck it could be worth a shot.

Hotfix from KB821334
2000 SP3a? It looks like you have to contact PSS to get any hotfixes
anymore. Does that mean anyone new to Reporting Services has to contact PSS
just to be able to install Reporting Services?Well, that's what we had to do.

(which means almost everybody needs it). I'll ask this in the SQL Server MVP
forum and see what is up and provide the answer on this thread.

been updated to refer to SP4 (which would have this hotfix rolled up in it).
So could be that SP4 will be soon and that would be what people would apply
instead of the hotfix. For now, contacting PSS seems to be the only route to
take.

Hot Fix 821334
I tryed installing Reporting Services for sql 2000 and wanted to use the
service account for install. During process I was told
that I needed to install hot fix 821334. Ok first off where can I find this
fix? Also I read that this fix causes Enterprise Manager not to function, is
this correct?
Thanks,
JJYou can find the fix on MS website.
Do a search for it via the fix number... its around 11MB. If you cant find
it, i can send it to you.
It wont break EM. Well atleast not on my 3 servers that I have installed the
fix on to :)

Hosting Options
Hello,
I have been attempting to locate a hosting company that offers SQL Server 2005 in addition to Analysis & Reporting Services but have been unable to find a hosting company which does so without purchasing the entire server. Anyone know of a company?
Thanks in Advance,
Garrett
You can get linked to a bunch of hosters offering SQL Server 2005 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56258. It won't call out if they offer Analysis & Reporting Services, so you'll need to click through and check. I would be interested in hearing more about what you're intending to host...
Thanks< MJ

Hosting Companies
commit to their own servers. Does anyone know of any hosting companies
offering hosting of SQL Server Reporting Services? So far, I can only find
one - discountasp.net and I'd like some more alternatives.infosaic.com
They are installing it this week. Sales may not be familiar with it as yet
so contact Garry Vershinin in tech support.
I have been hosting with them for three years now and am very happy with
their service and tech support.
