Hot Backups?

I know SQL 2000 supports backups while a database is up. I was told by some
one this afternoon that a SQL 2000 database would have to be taken down for
full backups to ensure the data was in a consistant state. Is this true? H
as anyone experienced incon
sistent data in backup files? No, that is not true.
A database backup will give you a snapshot of the database (as it looks
towards then end of the duration of the backup process). I trust there is
more info in Books Online regarding the technicalities of this (its getting
a bit too late here for me to browse in BOL for links :-) ).
I suggest you ask that someone to clarify his/hers position or provide a
reference which does. My bet is that you will not get any clarification...

to the point of it's completion. There is no reason to stop sql server.
