How can I change the default location of full text catalog?

Our current full text catalog default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.5\MSSQL\FTData, we want change the default location to c:\data\MSSQL.5\FTData, so all the FT catalog will be created in this new location. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Thanks

ShihChao

See SQL Server 2005 Books Online topic:

CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG (Transact-SQL)

If you use T-SQL you can specify the path.

The topic states “IN PATH 'rootpath'

Is the root directory for the catalog. If rootpath is not specified, the new catalog will be located in the default directory specified at setup.”

Full-text catalogs must be created on a local hard disk drive associated with an instance of SQL Server. rootpath cannot be a relative path; it must reside on a drive on the same computer.

As you probably know you can specify the path when you use the UI. It does not default to any path.

Also…you can use regedit at your own risk to change the default fulltext path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSQL.x/MSSQLServer/FullTextDefaultPath – specify path

The restart SQL Server service

How can i backup sql 2000 using win 2003 backup util

Hi
I have a windows 2003 server running sql. I would like to backup SQL 2000
databases using the built in backup software to a network location.
Could anyone tell me how i do this.
Thanks
Nick
To do this properly, you would have to take the databases offline, or stop
the SQL Server service.
Are you not able to use the built-in-and-highly-effective SQL Server backup
and then take those .bak files to a network location?

Thanks for the fast reply. Can i do that by right clicking on each databse
and selecting backup. Is that all i need to do. Is there any other sql
setting i should backup other than just the databases.
Thanks

How Analysis Services Server select the storage location for any object of within an analysis se

Hi, all experts here,

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

Could please any of you kindly advise me how can we find the storage locations of partitions of a cube from its code? (.xml file). Thanks a lot in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly for your advices and help.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Hi, all experts here,

I am just a bit confused about the storage location of the objects of an analysis services database. It does not seem like it stores all the objects within the same folder the very first time when we created the analysis services database project from BI studio, since I created the project in a folder which is different from the folder where the dimensions files of a cube are stored? How it works? Please shed me some light on it and I am really looking forward to hearing from you for your kind advices.

Thanks a lot in advance.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

|||

The folder created by the BIDS project simply contains metadata files. When you deploy, process, or what not in BIDS, those metadata files are used to compile scripts that are submitted to Analysis Services. Analysis Services constructs its objects within its data folder. The root data folder can be found by openning SQL Server Management Studio, connecting to an instance of SSAS, right-clicking the SSAS instance object, and selecting Properties from the context menu. On the dialog to pops up, look for the DataDir entry.
